What is a balustrade?

Still a little in the dark to what a balustrade is? Well it’s a molded shaft that can be made of stone, wood, metal or glass. It supports the coping of a handrail and/or of a staircase handrail. There are multiple ways a balustrade is being used today, it is even usedin swimming pool safety. Balustrades can be found the across the world, in museums, old homes, buildings and churches. So in other words the railings you see on stair cases, roof tops and patios are all balustrades.

Glass Balustrades, are they safe?

Yes, glass balustrades use safety glass that can be 6mm, 8mm or 12mm thick (depending on the design). Since safety glass is used it makes the breaking of such balustrade almost impossible.

Depending on the thickness of the safety glass it could also terminate the use of stainless steel mounts on the floor and the stainless steel hand rails.
